July 5th, 2008 - The Power of Community

On Saturday, July 5th, the Asbury Park Parent Listening Project had their first "Power of Community" event. It was a BBQ with donations from ShopRite, NJNG, and members.

The group has decided that the only way for the community to work together to change the school system for all the children, is to remind people that they are a community. A system hurting one child hurts them all.

Events will be held monthly, around the city, to reawaken the spirit of hope and unity in our community. Where there is no justice, there can be no peace. This school system is unjust - their is a lack of opportunity for parental input and involvement - yet the system blames the parents for their apathy. The Parent Listening Project is going to show the powers that be that this community does care about the education of their children - and they will not be silenced anymore.
